Reference 3 is fantastic. I wish I had this over the last 30 years of mixing and engineering. It takes a lot of the guest work out of decisions and mixing and MASTERING. It’s a game changer.

The best referencing plugin I've ever used. Nothing else makes referencing this easy, accurate and effective. I've used this every day for years, and recommend it to all my students too.

I love this plugin. Very easy to use. Great to get A-B comarisons and make informed choices. One thing that could be improved is the drag and drop - when I try to drag a file onto it from Total Commander in Windows 11, the app disappears; so I have to manually load it. Otherwise all good - like all of Mastering the Mix plugins!

Great plugin to reference tracks.
I have it on Control Room in Cubase every time I produce, mix and master.

Reference 3 is really a great improvement in many aspects. Now I can trust it at I get very quickly much better results.

Seriously, MTM has taken what is so often a tedious process and streamlined it allowing endless and painless exploration. One can compare, critique material and focus on problem areas without wandering about in a sonic jungle of distractions. Another jewel from the MTM team.

Bought this as an upgrade to my REFERENCE 2 as I think this makes referencing tracks much smoother and for me, improves accuracy.

Terrific update!

I used Gemini to quickly understand how this works. I New have a great understanding. This software is amazing but undeniable the most complex plug in Mastering the Mix do but once you understand the controls it absolutely nails the reference track to very accurate and acceptable standards I love it, just take the time to learn it properly and it delivers a professional replication of your reference track. I will use it to replicate a chorus or verse part of a song I like and match my track to just these parts. A good Tip is to ensure the reference track you choose is professionally mastered and does not clip, do not use tracks that are sub standard as your reference or your track will be referenced to that exactly. In summary Reference 3 is accurate and professional.

I loved Reference 2, but wished I could save presets, a batch of reference tracks for different styles of music, within the plugin itself, not in the host programs plugin wrapper. Still can't in v3. The metering has changed a bit. I notice that the compression metering in v2 is gone with a new "over compressed" readout instead. I must admit that I never really understood much of the compression readout in v2 anyway, so that's ok with me🤨. The addition of the reference library is great! My only wish there, is that I could select multiple files to add at once. Seems like it's only one at the time. Guess you can do that with drag and drop maybe, but I prefer doing it with finder(Mac). Apart from these minor wishes, a great plugin!

REFERENCE 3 is much more institutive under the hood with providing you with analysis and a visual scope of how your track compares with your particular genre's reference and how to more carefully tailor your track's dynamics, EQ, and all the other nuances to balance out your mix! Well done MTM!

The upgrade is a fantastic improvement. Version 2 was great but V3 is going to be a game changer for my mixes.

I'm using this a lot. It's a big step up. I feel from reference one. I've always had trouble choosing a reference track and this is helping me learn how to do that. I've already learned so much just using this plugin. Only problem I had was it didn't save my reference library which I built for the first song. I did and loaded a second song and my reference library was gone. I'm curious if this is just a anomaly on my side or standard for the plug-in. Hate having to build reference libraries more than once. And wondering where the reference library is actually stored on my computer so I can find it.

Trying out Reference 3 last couple of days. Ability to use multiple level-matched references and switch quickly between is great. The 3 different 'hints' views are useful to identify EQ or other areas that might need attention. Mix balance view is unique and very useful, as it confirmed what I was already thinking about needing to tweak the level of the drums in one song. But like any mastering analysis tool, you have to take all recommendations with a grain of salt, as it makes no sense to try to 100 match any reference. Which is why the "% match" indicator is also very useful, including your guidance that anything over 80% is doing pretty good.

I've used Reference 2 for a couple of years now and relied on it heavily. This update breaks it down to Vocal, Drums, Bass and Music to really give you insights into the comparisons. I like how it remembers the reference tracks that you've loaded. I'm not one to read manuals, I just dive in and start poking around to learn but I think I need to get into the manual to make sure I'm not missing some more gold.

A suggestion for importing reference tracks:

I'd like to be able to create a folder containing all the reference tracks and then select that folder to import them all at once.
